Heat

(Upał)

1964   >   musical comedy

A must-watch for the fans of intelligent though absurd sense of humor represented by the Polish television of the 60-ties and “Kabaret Starszych Panów”.

An unusual film for Kazimierz Kutz - outstanding film director, creator of the famous “Silesian trilogy”, who received numerous awards, including “Platinum Lions”, for his lifetime achievements at the 34th Polish Feature Film Festival in Gdynia.

The film refers to the legendary TV program „Kabaret Starszych Panów”. Besides Jerzy Wasowski and Jeremi Przybora we can mostly see actors associated with the cabaret: Wiesław Michnikowski, Barbara Krafftówna, Wiesław Gołas and Kalina Jędrusik.

During an unbearable heat wave the Prime Minister gives Starsi Panowie a mission to keep order in the capital city. The characters do their best to fulfill the task, however, they have no idea what they actually should do. When an overseas ambassador that nobody welcomed at the railway station, submits a highly critical diplomatic note Starsi Panowie are ready to do anything to prevent a political scandal. The situation gets complicated as the ambassador is fond of the beautiful Barbarka, who is also coveted by the road worker Albin and Kornel who works in a Fashion House. Fortunately, the characters can count on the volunteer Anti Heat Stroke Brigade of Kupała and Grzanka – the beautiful winner of the Heat Miss competition.
