Children’s ordeal in a Nazi concentration camp shown through the eyes of 11-year-old boy – Tadek. One of the caretakers decided Tadek had Nordic traits and therefore his character was subjected to a tough trial, however Tadek eventually withstood the attempted germanization.

An 11-year-old-boy ends up in a concentration camp for children in Łódź. Tadek is a pretty and intelligent child. One of his caretakers – Augstin – selects him for germanisation. He starts to spend plenty of time with him and protects him against the staff’s cruelty. The conditions in the camp are horrible; children die of hunger, cold and diseases. They are also forced to work. When fighting for the liberation of Łódź commence, Augustin wants to flee to camp with Tadek. The boy refuses to go with him. Dressed as a civilian Augustin is killed during his attempted escape from the camp.
