The film shows the process of establishing the people’s rule on the example of the adventures of a young boy, a former partisan – Zenek.

The year 1944. Germans pacify one of the villages in the region of Lubelszczyzna. A unit of the Peasants' Battalions rushes to help the village dwellers who are being slaughtered. One of the partisans – a handicapped Zenek is very courageous. After the liberation he refuses to give up his weapon. People’s rule is established in the neighborhood, which does not prevent a forest “Husar’s” unit from looting the village. Zenek fights with the gang, which makes village inhabitants miserable. He is put in prison for a few months for illegal possession of firearms. Zenek wants to marry Hela. In the eyes of the former partisans he’s a traitor and supporter of the new power. On his wedding day he’s shot by one of the thugs.
