A drama made up of two novels which are a psychological study of lonely women. The characters desperately crave understanding, acceptance and closeness of another person. The music was composed by Czesław Niemen.
Novel I “On a leash”
Ewa wants to stay in the city. In return for taking care of a dog, she finds shelter with an elderly woman who owns a spoilt and unbearable mongrel “Tymuś”. The owner loves her puppy and expects Ewa to treat him as the most important family member. With time Ewa starts dreaming of getting rid of the tiresome and demanding puppy. The behavior of the flat owner changes too. She starts treating Ewa like her own daughter. In the meantime, Ewa, not telling the dog owner about it, attempts to get a permanent registration in her flat. One day the dog runs out of the flat on its own, which triggers a hysterical reaction of its owner. Ewa realizes that losing the dog may be an unimaginable blow for the old lady. Nevertheless she helps Tymuś to run away again. The dog is run over by a car. The women bury him together.
Novel II “A lesson of love”
A Sunday of a lonely woman living in a big city. Elżbieta tries in vain to convince herself that she’s happy and has a fulfilling life. She starts her day from working out, later she tidies up her flat, irons, learns French and takes care of her skin in the empty flat. She goes to the cinema and a restaurant all by herself. Eventually, she tries to call the people around her – her mother and female friends. She feels even more isolated as nobody has time for her. She goes to the theater and to a disco. In the evening, her ex-partner visits Elżbieta. She delivers a monologue, which reveals her hidden emotions.
