Endless Meadows

(Bezkresne łąki)

1977   >   comedy

A hilarious comedy about human dreams of coming back to the land of childhood, illusions and appearances set in the picturesque landscapes of the Masurian Lakes.

A husband, a father and an appreciated employee – Henryk while getting ready for a business trip spots a photo in a newspaper. The photo shows the village where he used to spend his summer holidays as a child. He experiences an overwhelming nostalgia, thinking back about the carefree years and decides to go to the Masurian Lakes as quickly as possible. On his way there he picks up a group of young hitch-hikers, in front of whom he pretends to be someone important and influential, which he finds quite appealing. Henryk wishes to find the place where, a few dozen years ago, his summer buddy Tereska buried their treasure. He has plenty of adventures and eventually manages to find a broken deck and the “treasure” hidden in the tree, i.e. a bottle with a note inside. Marta with children, notified about his husband’s whereabouts and an ambulance come to the village. The final scene shows beautiful, flower-peppered meadows where the whole family play catch me.

Coming back to the places he associated with his happy childhood allows the character to regain his psychic balance and establish warmer relations with his family.
