Wife For An Australian

(Żona dla Australijczyka)

1964   >   musical/comedy

Musical comedy featuring Polish folk group “Mazowsze”. Light-hearted and effortless, the movie has all the attributes of the genre,  including a witty script. Songs and dancing are an integral part of the narrative, yet do not slow down its pace.

An affluent Australian farmer with Polish roots, Robert comes to Poland in quest of a beautiful and thrifty wife. Journalist Żelazkiewicz decides to help Robert, claiming that he will find the right candidate within three days. Meanwhile, “Mazowsze” performs at the Polish seaside. Following a misunderstanding, Hanka, one of the group’s choir girls, is abducted and placed in a captain’s villa. Initially, she seems immune to Robert’s charm. Nobody tries to stop her when she leaves the villa and returns to Gdynia. Soon, she starts having misgivings about her decision. Frequently, her thoughts go to Robert. “Mazowsze” goes on tour. Robert  and Hanka, who travels with the group, have a chance encounter on the deck of “Batory” ship.  The story has a happy ending.
