The barrier between generations and the inability to break through shown through the fate of Zofia, a resident at a welfare home.

Zofia is an old lady,  she lives in a welfare home. She considers it a temporary solution. She doesn’t have any friends, she doesn’t participate in the lives of other residents. Her main occupation is collecting small or large amounts of money  - she collects and sells bottles, tries her luck in the lottery, acts as an extra in a movie, poses for art school student’s sculptures. For Christmas Zofia visits her daughter and her son-in-law. She plans to move into their new apartment. While the children are away takes to cleaning. By accident she destroys her son in law’s research papers for his doctoral thesis. The woman loses hope for a happy Christmas among her loved ones. She quietly leaves the apartment and spends Christmas in restaurant at the train station. She gets rid of the presents she had – she throws some out the window, others she gives to random travelers.
