An original film by Wojciech Jerzy Hasa, named a „poet of cinema”, gifted with original and unusual talent, individual style, a great director and teacher, the author of masterpieces appreciated in Poland and abroad like „Rękopis znaleziony w Saragossie” or „Sanatorium pod Klepsydrą. “Złoto” is a film that focuses on the present and was made for the broad public. Apart from trademark elements characteristic for Hasa, the film also makes use of typical socialist realism cinema style elements.
The film takes place in a real construction site in the Turoszów industrial plant, which was widely covered in the press of the day.
A young anonymous hitchhiker reaches the construction site for a big industrial complex. Thanks to the good will of a geologist engineer he gets a job, but quickly gets into a conflict with the other workers. The boy dreams of happiness and wealth, which is symbolized by gold from the film title. The lead character gradually becomes accustomed to the new environment. He gets to know his lovely neighbor better, he tells the engineer about his wishes. His integration is cut short by the arrival of a mysterious man who is looking for the boy. It turns out the teen was actually on the run, avoiding the consequences of a crime he once committed. The terrified boy decides his only chance is escaping across the nearby border.
