A young writer undergoes a metamorhosis under the influence of a trip to the Auschwitz concentration camp.
Andrzej Muller, a resident of Warsaw, a typical party-animal who picks up one girl after another, likes to have fun, borrows money from friends. Despite his young age he’s a valued writer. He meets a 10 year younger girl who sponsors him. In an attempt to beat city heat and temporary writer’s block, he takes up his friends’ offer to take him along for a car trip to Auschwitz. There, a film is being made based on a script by one of the trip participants. The gas chambers make Andrzej aware how fragile human life and the human body are, how easy they are to destroy. He considers the meaning of his writing. He feels ashamed of the lifestyle he led until this moment. He momentarily grows up emotionally and begins taking responsibility for writing. He returns to Warsaw and visits the Pawiak prison. His life stop being amusing to him.
