The atmosphere and socio-political relations of the ‘70s in a story about Nowaczek – a hapless student who believes he has supernatural powers.
Nowaczek, a student of the Warsaw University of Technology whose request to take a year off has been once again refused takes on a job in a mine to avoid the draft. There he faces the brutal reality of meeting quotas, lack of rest and the harsh tempo of work. He meets Gienio who’s growing a lemon tree in a flower pot. They become friends. One day Nowaczek witnesses Gienio levitate. It makes him think he can do the impossible. There’s an accident at the mine. Nowaczek is injured during the rescue operation and is hospitalized. His opposition against actions taken by the mine authorities gets him sent to the army. Nowaczek levitates during room inspection.
