Eagle

(Orzeł)

1959   >   historical drama / war drama / psychological drama

A film by Leonard Buczkowski, Polish film director, working both before and after the WWII.

Magnificent performances by Wieńczysława Gliński, Jan Machulski and Bronisław Pawlik.

After the WWII begins, the submarine „Eagle” is held captive in Tallinn. The crew decides to escape and evades the Kriegsmarine throughout the entire Baltic Sea. Despite difficulties, it passes into the North Sea. Before them – a strait path to England.

Loosely based on historical events it depicts the legend of the Polish submarine’s bodacious escape from internment in Estonia. Vivid characters and gripping storyline. Classic war adventure cinema with dynamic action and a grand finale.
