Lucky Anthony

(Szczęściarz Antoni)

1961   >   slice of life/comedy

A smart sit-com, strongly embedded in the reality of the communist Poland and Warsaw. Its razor sharp wit targets the omnipresent bureaucracy, absurd situations from everyday life and common housing problems. The film doesn’t feature pushy propaganda, it is warm and wins viewers over with tasteful humor, ingenious ideas and friendly characters.

A superb cast featuring a number of interesting actors playing supporting roles. A cameo appearance of Edyta Wojtczak, icon of the Polish television, who later played only a TV presenter, i.e. herself.

Adventures of a young married couple who encounter a tank standing in their way to happiness.

Antoni, a shy clerk from the registry office has two dreams: to have a wife and his own flat. Unexpectedly, his dreams come true. The man marries Julia who was dumped by her fiancée and as a weeding present they get a detached house close to Warsaw. Arriving at their property, they find out that the house doesn’t exist as its construction was prevented by a small hill. Despite it Antoni and Julia decide to move into a barrack standing on their plot of land and remove the hill by themselves. They get into real trouble when they find an old tank buried under the ground. The machine generates a lot of interest, however its removal proves virtually impossible.
