The film tells the story of an impulsive and hot-hearted teenager whose “craziness” consists in helping other people.
The 15-year-old Ewa escapes from the house of the despotic Ms. Szymbartowa, where she lived while her father – famous bacteriologist – was away. A poor artist Jerzy decides to take care of her and puts her in the villa of his mother – Ms. Zawidzka. Full of faith in people and good will Ewa cannot accept human tragedy or injustice. She tries to help all those in need, making a lot of “crazy” things along the way, but at the same time bringing happiness and even saving the lives of those she cares about.
The film was made alongside a three-episode TV series, however about 40% of scenes were shot solely for the cinema version. The end of the film was altered and songs by Wojciech Młynarski (lyrics) and Waldemar Kazanecki (music) were added.
Dorota Grzelak, who played the leading role, was chosen from among 350 candidates over the course a four-tier audition. The young debutante was at the age of the main character Ewa, having just finished her primary school. A casting was also organized for Rolmops, the main character’s dog.
