Teresa and Paweł, a military doctor, are a married couple. Paweł is an introspective, taciturn man. Due to his profession, he has faced all the macabre and cruelty his patients were subjected to. This has taken a toll on his psyche and had a definitely negative influence on his family life. Theresa felt very lonely, until one day Wiktor appeared. He was a musician and a dreamer. He immediately had her head over heels. She gave in to romance, risking all she had. She soon reflected on her choice and understood her mistake. She began work as a schoolteacher in her hometown. After many years, a statue is to be unveiled there, creating an opportunity for the three main characters to meet. Wiktor is to grace the ceremony with a piano performance. Paweł wants to honor his ex-commander, to whom the monument is dedicated. Theresa is the teacher of the children who taking part in the ceremony.
