An interesting approach to the problem of looking for the objective truth, i.e. the one which doesn’t result from subjective information provided by the environment. It is also a story about discovering the real nature of a beloved person that we think we know inside out.
Stefania Lewicka discovers that her diseased husband, a professor, lived a double life. He owned a studio apartment in which the widow finds an intimate diary with meticulous entries about women. He starts a private investigation in order to get to know the details of the professor’s secret life. She obtains the addresses of the women. Unfortunately, when she starts asking questions, they see her only as a threat to their stable lives. The widow’s relatives don’t understand her doubts, either; after all she was happy in marriage. Finally, Stefania comes to the conclusion that she will never learn the truth.
