Film based on a true story, the investigation of family matters triggers the downfall and torment of the main character.
Szczepan Bryła is promoted to the position of the head of the international trade center. Bryła's son writes his PhD thesis. The dissertation is about Hans von Boldenberg, executed by Germans. Nervously Bryła confesses that von Boldenberg is his father and that he has been hiding his true name since 1943. His family persuades him to tell the truth to the authorities. The investigation begins. It turns out that Szczepan's brother is one of the board members of the West-Germany company the international trade center signed contract with. The atmosphere of aversion and jealousy grows and Bryła's co-workers demand his removal from the position. The witnesses refuse to testify and defend him. Facing lack of support of the majority of the staff Bryła resigns from his function.
