Jacek and Stefan, students of zootechnics, spend their holidays in the Bieszczady mountains, earning some extra money by grazing cattle. Tediousness, hard labor and difficult living conditions cause frustration in quick-tempered Jacek who dreams of “cowboy” heroism and adventures. One day when he goes to get some food, the boy finds a beautiful stallion. Then he puts himself in danger from a group of smugglers by seducing their boss’s girlfriend. He is also interested in Agnieszka, an assistant of a professor of geology. His initial success goes to his head. Because of his pride Agnieszka turns away from him, while he destroys his friendship with Stefan. Meanwhile, Marcyś, the gang leader, sees an opportunity to take revenge on his rival. Beaten up, humiliated and deprived of his horse, Jacek decides to settle the matter with a gun. Stefan joins him and together they go after the criminal.
