Post-war difficulties of organizing a local community presented through the story of settlers who are to become fishermen.

People are coming to the Vistula sandbar from all across the country. The local environment forces them to learn how fishing. The leader of the settlement is skipper Bosak. He’s the only one who knows how and where to fish. Hi wife is a herbalist. The arrival of the Bosak’s young cousin disrupts the rhythm of their lives. Bosak falls in love with her, but she’s not interested. In despair he decides to leave the settlement and head to the west regions of Poland. The settlers’ lives improve when they establish a cooperative. Several fishermen die in a storm. The settlement evolves into a trendy resort.
