Against Gods

(Przeciwko bogom)

1961   >   psychological/drama

High-quality aerial photographs by Wacław Florkowski and Mikołaj Sprudina.

The second film after Hubert Drapella’s “Historia jednego myśliwca” with the action taking place among military pilots.

A strong voice in the discussion about heroism and unnecessary bravado, started with the birth of the Polish Film School.

A conflict of characters and life attitudes set against dramatic events.

A story of a great military pilot, Karol Doroń, who in a critical situation saves his life at the expense of the machine. Even though his decision is justified and right, his environment turns against him, accusing him of cowardice. Karol is condemned by the fellow pilots from his unit, his jealous brother and even his loving but confused wife. In an accident caused by a young, reckless pilot, Doroń keeps a cool head, showing courage and excellent skills. He turns out to be the real hero, thus proving his previous decision was right.

The film was produced in cooperation with the Polish Air Force and the OPL OK (National Air Defense Corps).
