The story of a farm boy who goes against family traditions and stereotypes and decides to fight for a better life – he toils to get an education and earns the respect of people around him.

The brothers Józek and Franek live in the country. After their father’s death, Józek, the leader, takes over the farm. Franek wants to keep learning, he also decides to earn a living on his own. He takes a job as a forklift operator at a linen factory, he’s still attends high school. He feels the need to quit the farm life. He’s attracted to the city. In the factory he meets Ania, in whom he soon falls in love with. The girl can’t accept farm rural culture and mentality after she’s invited to Józek’s wedding. She begins distancing herself. The boy passes his final exams. He celebrates in a bar. Drunk, he comes home and starts an argument with Ania. From then on the girl avoids him Franek is sure he can’t return to the country any more. He wants to keep learning. He decides to study at the university – his proud friends from the factory walk him there.
