After World War II, Stefan, a young doctor, has difficulty settling in in everyday life. He is tormented by the war memory of him and his beloved Wanda trying to commit suicide. When the woman threw herself into the rapid current of the river, Stefan was stopped by a Polish railwayman. Unexpectedly, the man learns that Wanda has also survived. The both characters meet, but feel like strangers to one another and can’t come to terms with the demons of the past. Going back to what they used to have turns out to be impossible.
