The last film by Jerzy Zarzycki, who was seriously ill during the shoot and died shortly after the premiere.
 
The script, based on his own novel and personal experiences, was written by Jerzy Stefan Stawiński, an outstanding writer who cooperated with the best Polish artists, a co-author of the success of the Polish film school and the author of the scripts for such masterpieces as “Kanał”, “Eroica” and “Pułkownik Kwiatkowski”.
 
A self-reflective drama about passing and subjective perception of the past.
 
Using flashbacks and the “film-in-the-film” technique, the picture is a critical account of the presence of war in Polish cinematography.
 
A story of a director who through his art wants to go back to his past. 
 
Zygmunt Zawada shoots an autobiographical film, the action of which takes place during the Warsaw Uprising. The international premiere of his work gives him the opportunity to look for two of his friends who emigrated after the war. Unable to shake off the memory of his great love, Kama, the director can’t settle down. He also misses Adam, a friend and a fellow soldier, whom he admired and hated at the same time. Zawada’s plan proves to be both a success and a failure: the man meets Kama and Adam, but he no longer sees in them the people that they used to be. He begins to realize that he hast to leave the past behind.
