Trip For One Smile

(Podróż za jeden uśmiech)

1972   >   comedy/ feature

An icon of Polish youth cinema, based on a TV series, with excellent roles of young actors, a brilliant plot and colorful dialogues.

A story of two cousins, Duduś and Poldek. After the end of the school year they are to go on holiday to the seaside. Due to some unexpected events Poldek’s father has to urgently leave on business, while aunt Ania at the last moment chooses to go away with her boyfriend, in result of which the boys are forced to go to the seaside on their own. Duduś, used to his comfortable life and pampered by his parents, is initially against the idea. The smart and adventure-seeking Poldek finally manages to convince him. The adventure seems to get even more interesting, when at the train station it turns out that the boys have forgotten to take money for the tickets. They decide to hitchhike. On the way they have a lot of adventures. They spend a night in the open air, join a school trip, travel in a refrigerator truck, a furniture van transporting coffins and finally they meet Ula, a tourist who accompanies them for the rest of their journey. The radio broadcasts a message about two missing boys. Their descriptions match those of the two film characters. In the meantime Duduś disappears, Ula is lost, but at the end they all happily reach the town of Hel at the seaside, where the boys are awaited by their mothers who have missed them and worried about them.
