A dramatic story of a man who obsessively seeks justice.

Józef Mrotek arrives in his family village for the unveiling of the monument erected to commemorate his father, a local collective activist assassinated in 1945. Based on his mother’s account, he knows that Mazur, his father’s murderer, was released after the amnesty. Józef uses his contacts and obtains the case files. He gets to know the details of the trial, which allows him to reconstruct the crime. Jan Mrotek was tied, taken out of the house and hanged on the edge of the nearby field once owned by a local landowner. Józef concludes that in his last words his father asked him to punish the killer. He goes through his family things and finds a pistol. In the ministry archives he meets Marta who is fascinated with his quest for justice. They go together to look for Mazur. Once again Józef uses his contacts to establish Mazur’s address. Mazur is not home. Tired of waiting, Józef takes Marta to a bar. They talk about the case without realizing that they are overheard by Mazur himself who works in the bar cloakroom. The elderly man goes home and gets a heart attack. When Józef and Marta return to his house, they can see Mazur’s body being taken out to the ambulance. Józef runs away and Marta accuses him of causing the death of the man who has already paid for his crime. The fleeing car is stopped by the militia. Marta throws the gun away. Józef tries to get it back and is shot dead by the militia.
