A film by outstanding film, TV and theater director, a promoter of Silesian culture, recipient of Platinum Lions lifetime achievement award at the 2009 Polish Film Festival in Gdynia. He was Deputy Art Director of Kadr Film Studio between 1984 and 1987.
The film is a part of a trilogy together with „Salt of the Black Earth” and „Pearl in the Crown” depicting the mining region of Silesia.
Wonderful performances by amateur actors Augustyn Halotta and Marta Straszna.
Captivating score by Wojciech Kilar.
A retired miner is protesting against being moved into a housing project. He prefers to stay in his uncomfortable house, which leads to a conflict with his family. In the end, the management of the mine grants him the villa for his achievements. But there will be no time for settling in as the miner dies soon after. The funeral procession is a farewell symbol for old Silesia.
A very realistic portrayal of the people of the region. A psychological and moral drama, based on real diaries of retired miners.
