A story of a teacher who gains the recognition and respect from his students by pretending to be a war hero.
Rafał Wilczewski is a history teacher. He doesn’t get much credit from the school staff and even less from his students. Conflicted with the school principal, he resigns from work and leaves Warsaw. He finds a new job in a rural school, where he becomes a class teacher. He is ignored by his students. Trying to mock him, they ask him to share his memories of the war with them. The teacher tells them a made-up story about his heroic deeds. The young people are fascinated. Instantly the teacher becomes their idol and gains authority. His fake fame spreads. When the commander of the local fire brigade learns about it, he asks the teacher, as a former paratrooper, to do an inaugural jump from the new tower. Although petrified, Rafał jumps, convincing the students even more about his heroic past. Over time, however, the myth is getting too heavy to carry. Rafał decides to leave the town.
