Ethnographers on their summer internship attempt to explain the secret of one of the  families inhabiting the village.

A group of ethnography students comes to a small village in the Świętokrzyskie Mountains to do their internship. They are to look for old customs and traditions, however the history of the village is dominated by the dramatic events of World War II. Michał and Krystyna come to a decrepit farm inhabited by the quiet Mruk family. They find out that the Mruk family was the only one to have survived the pacification of the village and since that time they have completely isolated themselves from the outside world.
