Revenge

(Odwet)

1982   >   psychological/poetic/drama

An experimental film, full of metaphors and poetic symbols with a profound philosophical message.

The film was inspired by Bolesław Leśmian’s poetry and the narrative poem “Odwet” written by Aleksander Błok.

A story about confronting the past with the present and the clash of dreams and reality

Świdrycki and Midroń, who used to be friends and who are wealthy engineers now, meet in a hotel in the mountains. Many years ago, still as Świdryga and Midryga, they were rebels by choice, personification of nonconformity, freedom and crazy ideas. The unexpected meeting makes them realize how much they’ve changed. They both feel as losers and miss the times of their youth. During long discussions they try to analyze their attitudes and actions. Both characters’ wives: Andzia and Madzia have almost identical conversations. Contrary to their husbands they want to enjoy their lives.
