Oh, Charles

(Och, Karol)

1985   >   comedy/ feature

A popular sex comedy.  The character’s life is man’s dreams come true, he’s continuously surrounded by many beautiful women, courted and adored and he takes what’s best from his life. The film features plenty of ladies wearing skimpy clothes who are Karol’s fans. Eventually, it turns out that excess is not recommended in any area and that even excess of pleasure is harmful and one may grow tired of it.

Karol Gierski is a young architect. Since he likes to sleep in, he’s always late for work. If he manages to get there, he starts his day from calling his female friends. Right after work he visits Irena. She’s waiting for Karol to leave his wife. Karol cannot make up his mind, but Irena doesn’t mind. After that he comes back home, where he assures his wife Marysia about his feelings for her. On the next day he meets Paulina waiting for him in the office, who tells him that they may have a baby. Karol’s popularity with women surprises his boss. Another Karol’s fan is Wanda, who wants to get closer to him by promising to arrange him a lucrative contract in Nigeria. Marysia is aware of the fact that his husband has many close female friends but is also unable to reproach him for that. Karol promises Irena to spend a few days in Masuria with her. At the railway station they meet Marysia’s aunt who’s come to visit her. Irena comes back on her own and Karol takes the aunt home. A few days later it turns out that he’s won an architectural competition. He celebrates his success is celebrated and then, completely drunk, comes back home where his wife and three female friends await him. The women take care of him. After some time he becomes tired of it and tries to devote himself utterly to his work. He goes on a longer business trip where he meets another woman – Katarzyna, who instantly falls in love with him. Karol jumps out of the window and ends up in hospital, where, covered in plaster he catches the eye of nurse Zosia. In despair, Karol runs away from the hospital and tries to flag down a car. The car stops and Marysia, Paulina, Irena, Wanda and Basia get out. He’s surrounded and Katarzyna with Zosia are running towards him from the hospital.
