Giuseppe in Warsaw

(Giuseppe w Warszawie)

1964   >   war comedy

One of the most important comedies in Polish cinema history.

A star of Polish cinema of the 60’s and 70’s Elżbieta Czyżewska plays the part of Maria.
An unusual comedy performance by Zbigniew Cybulski.

A film illustrated by Wojciech Kilar’s atmospheric music.

The plot line are the capers of three characters that met by coincidence. An Italian – a deserter from the eastern front on two siblings Maria and Staszek.
By incredible coincidence and Italian soldier meets members of the resistance. He is robbed and moves in with a girl that is an active conspirator. He suspects her of stealing his gun. Giuseppe starts assisting Maria, but one day the gendarmerie catches onto them.

A war comedy. A farce of the Polish occupation reality. A big dose of humor.
