Where Is The Third King

(Gdzie jest trzeci król)

1966   >   criminal

Classic crime film mixing well-known features of the genre with elements of comedy.

The screenplay is based on a novel by renowned translator and crime fiction master Maciej Słomczyński, known to fans of the genre by his pen name Joe Alex.

The setting is similar to that of Kobra televised theatre play series invented and co-written by Maciej Słomczyński.

The film features a number of talented and popular character actors and actresses, including the charming Andrzej Łapicki and Kalina Jędrusik - actress, singer and scandalist known as " communist Poland's first sex bomb".

The police is alerted that a valuable painting may be stolen from a museum set up in an old palace. Captain Stefan Berent and lieutenant Katarzyna Rogalska are sent to the location. Posing for husband and wife, they are supposed to replace the masterpiece with a copy fitted with a transmitter. The seemingly simple task becomes complicated after the museum-keeper goes missing and several copies of the painting start circulating in the building. The investigation reveals that all inhabitants of the palace have something to hide, from macabre jokes and love affairs to murder.
