Codename Nectar

(Kryptonim "Nektar")

1963   >   criminal comedy

A classic comedy film combining situational and verbal comedy with parody and a well-matched cast of character actors. The light criminal plot serves as a pretext for presenting a series of funny, sometimes absurd situations.

The film features a star-studded cast, including the prematurely deceased Bogumił Kobiela and Jarema Stępowski.

The script was co-written by Edmund Niziurski, whose cult children’s and teenage books continue to attract new generations of readers… and filmmakers.

Newspaper reporter Jacek dreams of becoming an investigative journalist. During a summer heat wave, he gets his big chance: his task is to discover the origin of a particularly bad tasting drink called Pola Manola. The reporter thus stumbles across a criminal case, because the producers of Pola Manola turn out to be a gang of offenders. They decide to invest their money in diamonds, which their accomplice, an impoverished count, plants in a film props room. Jacek works with the police to expose them, but pretty extra Agnieszka tends to get in his way. The journalist starts suspecting her of being in the gang as well, but despite this falls in love with her and his feelings are reciprocated. Meanwhile, the criminals make an attempt to get their money back.
