Directed by extraordinary Polish director – Wojciech Jerzy Has.
One of the greatest female performances in the history of Polish cinema – Barbara Krafftówna in the role of Felicja.
Screenplay based on the short-story by Kazimierz Brandys.
A well known actress is going to Paris. She reminisces about the war years seeking a difficult yet cleansing way to settle with her past. She recalls the time during the war when she gave refuge to Wiktor, an actor, who was accused of committing murder. Unrequited love for him forces her to act in a German theater. In the end Wiktor becomes an alcoholic and commits suicide. After the war the actress is accused of collaborating with the Germans and is forced
to flee the country.
A psychological drama. A take on war through the eyes of people entangled in terrible situations. An intimate reply to the martyrdom and romanticism of the „Polish school”
of cinema.
