Bachelor's Club

(Klub kawalerów)

1962   >   musical comedy

Musical comedy in retro style, drawing on the tradition of vaudeville, operetta and pre-war Polish cinematography.

A group of terrific actors who delivered a great comedy performance.

Beautiful and witty songs written specifically for the film with lyrics by master Ludwik Starski and Marek Sarta’s music, arranged in an artful and stylish way.

A loose adaptation of the famous 19th-century comedy by Michał Bałucki, which touched upon a popular theme of male-female relationships and the alleged reluctance to marry.

Krakow, the beginning of the 19th century. The members of the Bachelors Club stand against the institution of marriage, arousing outrage in local women. The men happily accept the return of Jan Piorunowicz into their ranks - the "prodigal son", who a year after the wedding abandoned his wife. The appearance of the beautiful Jadwiga causes confusion among the bachelors. The whole group goes to Krynica, where it turns out that it was Jadwiga who dumped her spouse Piorunowicz. After a series of comical events, almost all the characters marry and the Bachelors Club loses its reason to exist.

The songs performed by the actors themselves are noteworthy. Only Lidia Korsakówna was dubbed in the vocal parts by Irena Santor as well as Pola Raksa.
