Heading for Berlin

(Kierunek Berlin)

1969   >   war/ drama

A portrait of one of the companies of the First Polish Army, participating in the victorious offensive in 1945. A film full of battle scenes, pyrotechnic performances, interspersed with soldiers' anecdotes. Excellent role of Wojciech Siemion who played a jovial peasant - Corporal Naróg.

After the successful forcing the Oder, the end of World War II is getting closer. The soldiers of the First Polish Army are taking part in the Berlin operation. In the final battles peasants from a pacified village come to help them accompanied by a Warsaw Uprising insurgent and migrants from the other side of the Bug River.

The first part of Jerzy Passendorfer's duology. Short versions of "Kierunek Berlin" and "Ostatnie dni” make up the film "Zwycięstwo".
