A tragic story of a resistance member during German occupation whose responsibilities to his close ones get in the way of his responsibility to the organization.

During a bank robbery carried out by group of young resistance members, the brother-in-law of mission leader Paweł is captured. Paweł tries to get him out of prison. Acting on his own initiative, he spends some of the money on ransom. He contacts the Germans through a bar owner. Despite lack of approval from the commander, he decides to pay the ransom. On the next day, he finds the name of his brother-in-law on the execution list. Because of his decision, Paweł gets into a conflict with the organization. He kills the bar owner. Although he realizes that his cover has been blown and that he is in danger, he decides not to go into hiding.
