An account of an actual pedagogical experiment propagated by Maria Łopatkowa in which children choose their final adoptive families. The film is also a protest against formal, official treatment of the adoption process.
The experiment takes place in a holiday resort in the Masurian Lake District. Its goal is to select adoptive families for children, and it is the children who make the decision. Some of them approach the issue in a passive manner, while others, each in their own way, try to make the best choice. Some of the participants in the experiment resort to manipulation, with quarrels and conflicts ensuing among the potential adoptive families, especially if they happen to be interested in the same child. Maciek notices Kasia, a girl on a gluten-free diet whom others call “Cornie”. She also wins the heart of Maciek’s wife Basia. Eventually, Maciek and Basia become Kasia’s adoptive parents.
