A film by a master of auteur cinema and “private film director” Andrzej Kondratiuk who is best known for such iconic movies as „Hydrozagadka”, „Wniebowzięci” and „Wrzeciono czasu”.
The film features a fabulous performance by a legendary comedy duo Zdzisław Maklakiewicz and Jan Himilsbach.
The music featured in the film was composed by the band “Skaldowie”.
Tongue-in-cheek, subversive and brimming with absurdity, the film is a satire of the Polish film industry and people associated with it.
Passing themselves off as a film director and a writer, two men arrive at the Artists’ Retreat in Zakopane. They manage to get rooms by claiming that they work on a script for a new movie. Their boorishness and unmannerly behavior cause a major stir. The protagonists enjoy their stay and get involved in situations which often end in a disaster or produce a comical effect. They hook up with a couple of women whom they falsely promise roles in a new film. At the same time, they develop tacky and unrealistic projects in pursuit of a worldwide fame. In the final scene, they turn out to be conmen.
Presently acclaimed by Polish comedy aficionados, the film was slagged off by critics at the time of its first screening. Enraged critics postulated that Kondratiuk should work off the money spent on the film’s production.
