A story about overcoming one’s weaknesses and becoming more self-confident, which are side effects of experiments with the laws of physics.
A timid, stammering boy arrives in a big city. He lands a job hanging posters in the street. He meets Stary and the two become friends. Stary conducts parapsychological experiments. He seeks a yet unknown form of energy which could overcome gravity. He fabricates the findings of his experiments. When Jędrek loses his job, Stary offers him a place to stay. The boy agrees to take part in an experiment. The energy generated by the participants of a séance is expected to lift him in the air. The séance is held in the ruins at the outskirts of the city. The walls collapse and a frightened crowd runs away. Jędrek no longer stammers. He falls in love with Ewa. Stary asks him to participate in another experiment. He would have to jump from a height, but the energy emanating from the audience would slow down the fall. Jędrek turns down the offer. Stary decides to jump. He does not survive the fall. When he lies on the pavement, Jędrek says goodbye to him by calling him “dad”.
