A journalist Andrzej and his attractive wife Krystyna go for a one day yacht trip. They pick up
a young hitchhiker along the way. The boy is invited onto the yacht. Offshore, the two men compete in strength, intellect and life views. Andrzej preferring affluent, easy urban life confronts with a young idealistic rebel.

The film gained international acclaim thanks its catchy topic, universal issues and masterfull direction of the drama  between three characters stuck on a tight boat deck in a post-season Masurian lake landscape. The film is surprisingly deep well staged and displays traits
of the directors later works. The film launched Roman Polanski’s international career.
