New Year's Eve, 1961. Joanna, a girl from a good home in Kraków, is getting ready for a party at which she is to get engaged with Andrzej who was chosen for her by her mother. Due to an error, the girl doesn’t arrive. She spends the night in the company of Tadeusz, who she meets accidentally. She attends a New Year’s Eve party with him and then visits a woman, who turns out to be Andrzej’s mistress - one of many. In the morning the girl returns home and to her family who is outraged by her behavior. However, she plans to continue her acquaintance with Tadeusz.
The idea for the screenplay was taken from an article in the weekend press. Surprisingly, the seemingly absurd story of the "lost" bride really did happen...
