Falling in Love

(Zakochani są między nami)

1965   >   drama

A comedy-drama about subjectivity of feelings and consequences of seemingly trifle decisions.

A story about a young couple set during one summer day and referring to the French “new wave”. Particularly worthwhile is the process of building ambience in the film, which evolves from a light story with elements of comedy and gradually turns into a bitter tragedy.

One of the first roles of Magdalena Zawadzka, a popular film and theater actress, who gained viewers’ sympathy as Basia in the screening of “Pan Wołodyjowski”.

Maciek and Katarzyna - “Kajtek” are spending the summer together at the seaside. Following the initial infatuation their relationship is going through a crisis. Kajtek is genuinely in love with Maciek, however, for him, she is merely a summer affair, and he’s already got bored with her. The young people, who have to cope with financial problems, are chosen to take part in the competition “Zakochani są między nami”. They are to pretend an ideal couple that would be recognized by beachgoers. The situation gets complicated when an attractive married woman catches Maciek’s eye. He starts flirting with her, forgetting about his partner. The boy’s recklessness and egoism lead to tragedy.
