In a Year, in a Day, in a Moment…

(Za rok, za dzień, za chwilę)

1972   >   psychological

A story about a young woman of Polish origin from New Zealand who, after a short stay in the country, becomes aware of her national identity.

Wanda arrives in Poznań from New Zealand to take part in Wieniawski’s violin competition. Her performance is not successful and Wanda decides to go to Rome. On the border it turns out she left her passport at the hotel reception. Waiting for the document to be delivered, she goes sightseeing. In a nearby town there’s a martyrology museum where she finds a mention of her father, an RAF soldier. With the help of a new acquaintance – Grażyna – she tries to find some trace of her father whom she hasn’t seen for over twenty years, yet to no avail. Wanda attends Grażyna and Piotr’s wedding and is fascinated by the ceremony. She gets her passport back from Poznań. Together with the married couple she goes on a cruise onboard the ship where Piotr carries out his military service. Wanda decides to come back to the country of her ancestors again, hoping to find love.
