Matilda's Birthday

(Urodziny Matyldy)

1975   >   slice of life/ drama

A psychological portrait of a thirty-year-old woman whose birthday serves as an opportunity to analyze her life so far that’s been full of confusion as well as seek true love. The picture provides plenty of intriguing observations about human interactions.

Matylda is pretty and strong-willed. She works as a psychologist and tries to help those in need. Unfortunately her efforts often achieve a counter effect. She is disappointed with her personal and love life. Her former husband proved to be a Peter Pan and the actor she admired was too addicted to drinking. The man she cares most about is Andrzej, a psychiatrist. He assures Matylda he feels the same for her, but she doesn’t fully trust him. Eventually, having been rescued by Andrzej from a difficult situation, Matylda falls in love with him.
