A film based on a true story. A reconstruction of the “Black Sunday” events in Bydgoszcz in September 1939, with a motif of a tragic love of a young couple, a Polish man and a German woman.
A load of weapons intended for German paramilitary organizations is taken over by the Polish police. The situation is very tense, the town is populated by Poles and Germans. Among them there are two young people, Piotr, who is Polish, and Anna Maria, who is German. They attend the same school and fall in love with each other. Piotr’s friends don’t approve of his relationship with a German woman and they exclude him from their group. The parents are also unfriendly and unpleasant towards them. The war breaks out. The retreating Polish soldiers are attacked by Nazi paramilitary forces. Polish residents of the city organize defense. Because of his relationship with a German woman, Piotr isn’t given a gun. The Polish army leaves the city and the Nazis massacre the civilians. Piotr dies, trying to get a weapon to be able to fight.
