The Hijacking of 'Savoy'

(Porwanie Savoi)

1980   >   a youth action and adventure film

An international co-production based on Andrzej Szczypiorski’s novel “Lot 627”.

A successful combination of an adventure film for young people with action and much more serious motives.

14-year-old Janek sets off for Brazil, where he is to meet his father. During his journey he accidentally overhears a conversation of dangerous criminals, is a witness of a police action and meets Tania, his peer from the Soviet Union. The chartered plane which they fly with is hijacked and it breaks down. The characters are taken to the gangsters’ sanctuary in the jungle. Janek’s guardian recognizes a wanted war criminal in the gang leader. Working together, the hostages manage to escape, but this is only the beginning: they have to get through to the immobilized plane, while trying to lose the pursuit.

The film was screened in the Polish language. The non-Polish actors were dubbed by such artists as Krzysztof Kołbasiuk (Guido) or Marian Kociniak (Stojanov).
