The Ring And The Rose

(Pierścień i róża)

1987   >   fable/ musical for children/ comedy

Adaptation of a 19th century novel by William Makepeace Thackeray considered as one of international children's classic books whose fame equals that of “Alice in Wonderland” or “The Chronicles of Narnia”.

A film by Jerzy Gruza who during the filmmaking process relied on the experience acquired while working as the director of the Musical Theater in Gdynia.

Fable for viewers of all ages abounding in humor, music and unexpected action twists in which the title items upon which a spell has been cast, play an important role, endowing their owners with beauty and charisma.

Prince Bulbo arrives at the court of the King of Pafalagonia. The successor to the Krymtatarii throne courts the princess of Paflagonia Angelika, wishing to take her as his wife. The enchanted girl breaks off the engagement with her cousin Lulejka, a hard-working heir to the throne of Paflagonia. Lulejka, heartbroken at first, quickly finds a new love. After short infatuation with the female butler Gburia-Furia the young man falls in love with the maid Rózia, who also has feelings for him and who, in the reality, is the princess of Krymtataria who had been chased away. After many stormy events and defeating two impostors the young couple can live happily ever after mostly because of the help of the powerful Black Fairy.

Besides the film also a TV adaptation of “Pierścień i róża” was made as a TV series consisting of five episodes.
