Dodek

(Pan Dodek)

1971   >   biographical comedy

A film tribute to Adolf Dymsza, the greatest Polish comedy actor of the interwar period and, at the same time, a portrait of this incredible artist.

An anthology of the ten chosen fragments from the pre-war films, maintained until the sixties, starring the beloved „Dodek”.

The actor playing the leading role is accompanied by his daughter Anita Dymszówna, a theater actress, who plays a journalist.

A young journalist attempts to make an interview with an old Warsaw artist Mr Dodek. The man does not have any time for her, as he is busy trying to get an allotment through several different institutions. During subsequent meetings Mr Dodek remembers his colorful past. He talks about the jobs he did, his sports experience, the time he served in the army… Every retrospection becomes an opportunity to show an excerpt of another film from Dymsza’s portfolio. Eventually, Mr Dodek gets his much wanted allotment and the journalist finishes her interview.

The film includes excerpts from such pictures as: “Wacuś”, “ABC miłości”, “Dwanaście krzeseł”, “Każdemu wolno kochać”, “Niedorajda”, “Paweł i Gaweł”, “Robert i Bertrand”, “Sportowiec mimo woli”, “Dodek na froncie” and “Antek policmajster”.

Besides Dymsza, other actors starring in the film include Mieczysława Ćwiklińska, Eugeniusz Bodo, Ina Benita, Ludwik Sempoliński or Michał Znicz.
