A forerunner for New Wave cinema achievements, searching for new esthetics for Polish cinema. One of the most stunning esthetically Polish films.

An adaptation of Józef Hen’s novel.

A debut for score composer Wojciech Kilar.

A story of a man trying to escape the consequences of war and start a new life. He failed to follow an order. He runs away and settles in a small town where he seeks oblivion and solitude. There, he meets Lucyna – a girl more mature than he is. When the members of the resistance catches on to him, he urgently leaves the town. But everything suggests that he will return to Lucyna as they are bound by a great love.

A psychological drama. A study of youthful love and emotional immaturity.
