You Will Not Know Peace

(Nie zaznasz spokoju)

1978   >   psychological/ drama

A psychological drama showing one of the subcultures, the so-called “gitowcy” whose members follow their own code of conduct based on force and violence. Falsely understood identity with a group and obedience have tragic consequences.

Tolek Maliniak, known as Bicz among his friends, gets out of prison. Despite spending three years behind bars, he’s not changed his values or approach to life. Arriving in Warsaw, he becomes the boss of a group of “gitowcy”. Together they plan an assault. Bicz and his gang rape a girl. Tolek’s brother – Janek doesn’t want to have anything to do with them. He leaves the group, but Bicz forces him to come back. Bicz also wants to take revenge on his ex-girlfriend – Bożena, who’s dating Gnat. Gnat has also left the gang and must be punished for that. Terrorized, he lures Bożena to a barrack on the Vistula river where Tolek already awaits her. Janek tries to defend the girl. The brothers start fighting. Hit by Tolek, Janek falls down onto his own knife and dies on the spot.
